"A very very busy hospital...which means that you might not get as much personal attention as you would in some smaller hospitals. Very fast paced."

"LARGE rooms! Beautiful rooms! But some of the nurses are a bit abrupt and less personal than some of my moms would like to see." - 2001

"I had an excellent experience there. The first nurse in the traige room seemed very insensitive to my clients needs and was very abrupt, but just when I was worried that my client, who expressed that she didn't like her, was going to request another nurse, a cesarean was found to be necessary. Our new nurse was incredibly empathetic, kind, and gentle...everything you want in a nurse. The anesthesiologist was professional...although not as personable as he could have been. When my client expressed her desire to take her placenta home, the anesthesiologist seemed thrown for a loop...and said something about he thought it was against OSHA rules or some such (which isn't true). The doctor, Dr Eric Hazelrigg, was fan-tastic!!! He was VERY sensitive...open....friendly. He not only allowed mom to have both her husband and her doula in the OR with her, but he even allowed photographs of the surgery...and even allowed it to be video taped!! He was obviously a man with great skill and was confident in his abilities. I would recommend this care provider to anyone in the east phoenix area who is looking for a skilled care provider. Dr Hazelrigg helped make my clients experience, which could have been terrifying, a much better experience." - 2001

These photos show a standard "newer" room at Desert Samaritan Hospital. Older rooms are MUCH smaller.
A typical bathroom in a newer room: very large shower
