San Antonio, New Braunfels, Floresville, Boerne, allsurrounding areas | The San Antonio Area Midwives Association (SAAMA) isa newly formed midwives association in the San Antonio, Texas area. SAAMA currently has twelve licensed midwives in its membership. These midwives are currently training six apprentices to be the midwives of the future. They have monthly meetings as well as social functions, peer reviews and educational workshops. Each midwife has worked to create a phone tree and/or email tree for use during legislative action calls. The local awareness of homebirth and birth choices is growing daily as the SAAMA midwives work with child birth educators, doulas, La Leche League leaders and parenting groups to educate them about birth choices. SAAMA has a new website, www.sanantoniomidwives.org, which is educating community members about the benefits of the Midwifery Model of Care and the benefits of choosing a licensed midwife to educate and support a family during the miracle of birth. The midwives have shown commendable ethics in working together as a birthing community. Together they have attended thousands of normal deliveries as well as variations of normal birth: twins, triplets and breech births. These midwives have discovered the key to success: they support each other emotionally, physically and educationally. We are very proud of the intelligent, strong women that make up SAAMA. They embody the emotional integrity mandated to give an organization foundational strength. This organization is destined to grow and reach many women with the good news that they can experience personal empowerment through their choices in birth. SAAMA midwives are changing the world one birth at a time! |

San Marcos, Buda, Kyle, Lockhart, Luling & South Austin | BIRTH DAYS Every mother has one, and most will behappy to share it with you. What is it? Their birth story. Some women will tell you of blissful births and some will tell you of difficult trials, but every mother has a story to tell. Why is this so important to us? What is the significance in this day...our children's birth days? It is the day that begins to define us...it is the transformation from woman to mother. Like a butterfly, in a few hours of our life we blossom into new creatures...we become mothers. It is a day that you will never forget. As a mother, a sister, a daughter....and a woman, I recognize the importance of this event and with great care, experience and intuition, I would like to help you have a more satisfying birth. |

In 8 years I've learned a lot, the most important lesson of all is that I absolutely LOVE this work. I've attended and supported both hospital and home births. Each birth has been different from the next, but they've all been a genuine pleasure to be a part of. Aside from my work as a doula, I've been a Licensed Vocational Nurse for 5 years. I have plans to continue my education and become a Certified Nurse Midwife. Austin, TX and the the surrounding areas | My philosphy is that every woman has a right to give birth in the place that is most comfortable for her, whether it be home, birth center, or hospital. I am there to help give information on choices and options that you may not be aware and support you in the decisions that you make for you and your baby. I believe that if we allow labor to progress on it's own with as little intervention as possible we have a better opportunity for safe outcomes for both mom and baby. |
